Police said the dog bit her on the leg as they met and that the victim was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

In the days following the incident, police say officers have been scouring CCTV in the area and speaking to witnesses.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We would now like to hear from anyone we have not yet spoken to who was in the area at the time and saw what happened or the moments leading up to it.

“We appreciate that the description of the dog and its owner are limited, however it is the best we have available at this time.”

Police are asking people to report online or call 101 with information, quoting reference number 44230318017.
